Driver Camber Fitting

Loft and shaft get most of the attention in a typical driver fitting. We start there too, but we don't stop there — the curvature ground into the face, bulge running horizontally and roll running vertically, has a direct and measurable effect on what happens to your mis-hits.

The Core Idea

What Bulge and Roll Actually Do

Bulge — Horizontal Curvature

Bulge is the side-to-side curve across the face. When you strike the ball toward the toe or heel, the clubhead twists open or closed at impact — a phenomenon called gear effect. That twist puts sidespin on the ball. Bulge curvature angles the face slightly relative to that twist, so the resulting sidespin curves the ball back toward your target line instead of letting it drift further offline.

Roll — Vertical Curvature

Roll works the same principle vertically. A strike high or low on the face changes launch angle and spin rate through vertical gear effect. Roll curvature is tuned to manage that shift so a low-face strike doesn't lose all its carry and a high-face strike doesn't balloon.

Why Matching Matters

Stock Curvature Is Built for an Average Miss

Manufacturers set bulge and roll radii based on an average strike distribution across a large player population. If your miss pattern is close to that average, stock curvature already works fine for you. If it isn't — if your misses cluster consistently toward one side of the face — a curvature built for someone else's average can actively work against your ball flight.

We've logged bulge and roll radii across dozens of current driver models on our own bench. The differences are real: some heads run a noticeably tighter bulge aimed at low-spin players who rarely miss center, others run a more generous curve built for forgiveness across a wider strike zone. Neither is universally correct.

Signs Camber Matching Could Help

  • A consistent hook or slice that shows up specifically on mis-hits, not center strikes
  • Toe or heel contact that shows up repeatedly on impact tape or foot spray
  • A previous fitting that addressed loft and shaft but never looked at face curvature
  • Wider-than-expected dispersion despite solid swing speed and center-strike carry

1. Map Your Real Strike Pattern

Impact tape and launch monitor data across a full bucket, so we're working from your actual dispersion instead of a guess about where you probably miss.

2. Hit Curvature Head to Head

Three to five demo heads with meaningfully different bulge and roll radii, hit in sequence so the comparison happens on the same swing session, same conditions.

3. Compare Before and After

Side-by-side dispersion charts showing how each curvature option handled your specific mis-hits, not just your center-face numbers.
